Happy Birthday little blog

Happy Birthday Squiggle and Swirl

One year of blogging and I’m still here. I have been writing this blog post over and over in the shower this week and now it’s Saturday morning, I’m heading to Melbourne soon and my computer has decided to go on strike ….aarrgghh!

When I started this blog it was on a whim, a feeling of wanting to step outside my comfort zone, try something new, say yes rather than no, It was really quite terrifying pressing publish the first time and lots of times after that too. Somewhere along the way it got easier and less scary. My blog is not as pretty as I’d like it to be, not as organized as I’d like it to be or as fancy, but…it is mine. My voice, my images and my story and I am really proud of myself to have gotten this far.

Along the way I have met lots of interesting and inspiring people, lovely people who I am really enjoying getting to know more online and in real life too. I have become involved in different creative communities and participated in creative challenges which has given my creative life a real boost. There have been a few times where I doubted if I should keep  going, what do I have to share that anyone else would want to read etc. etc. etc. and yet I still kept coming back, one post at a time.

So I’ve been reflecting on why have a blog and for me it’s about the conversations I have, with the people that read (you) and also with myself. There is something quite powerful about taking the time to tell your own story, be it on or off line. For me this space is part telling my story and part writing the next part of my story if that makes any sense.

Thank you so much for visiting me here, whether it was once or many times. There is no way I’d still be here if it wasn’t for all the lovely support you have given me, and the comments you made. It has meant the world to me!

So now I’m going to attempt to create an image, edit and press publish, then get packed and go. I hope you have a great weekend wherever you are too.

Maybe this blog will get prettier and fancier and more organized soon or maybe I will keep being too busy doing all the fun creative stuff, work stuff and most importantly family stuff. Thanks again lovely readers.

Yours truly,

Emily xo

p.s more technical difficulties resulted in this being posted late Sunday evening, I now have 147 less cookies and 74 less malwares on my laptop, and a less fragmented something or the other. Thank goodness my tech savvy and kind husband!

  2. Hey Emily! Happy birthday to Squiggle and Swirl! I’ve also been thinking lately ‘What am I blogging again?’ But you’re right, it’s about the conversation with readers, and the one with yourself. Also, the creative challenge, and having the confidence to put yourself out there and see what comes of it. I reckon that is totally worthwhile. I still find it amazing that people who I’ve never met read what I write, but they do! So all the best with the next 12 months of Squiggle and Swirl, I’ll be following along x Isabel
